Playful Passage n.6
In February 24 we were at the Spieleerfindermesse in Nuremberg for the first time with our game Insighttopia. As you can see, the game was much bigger at the time, the instructions were longer and I was more excited than I had been for a long time. Our main take-home message from the fair was that none of the big publishers had a game like Insighttopia in their catalogue. This made us realise that we had to listen to our own noses to find the development and publishing path for this project.
🔍 A guiding question that has helped us time and again in the further development process of the game is:
‘What would this look like if it were easy?’
So we moved away from the idea of wanting to produce a complex game consisting of many parts and found the ‘easy way’ to today's much more compact and minimalistically elegant game version. Below you will find the current back of the game, with a short instruction. What are your initial thoughts and associations?

Playful practice 😜: Nothing useful can be achieved through effort
I can no longer get this sentence out of my head. For long periods of my life, I often saw myself as a super-competitive person. Always having to be the fastest runner in football training, delivering the most amazing presentations at school, going to the gym every day to get the dream body. When I think back, I'm overcome with a tired grin and my neck tenses up a little.
Baloo the bear from Mowgli sings: ‘It's coming to you!
Try cosiness
with peace and cosiness
you banish all your worries...’
and I'm glad I learnt this mantra as a child. I don't come from a hyper-ambitious home environment and from the middle of my psychology degree at the latest, I was able to give up my inner pressure to perform more and more.
A close friend once advised me that if I didn't know what to do, if a decision situation simply seemed unmanageable, I could just ‘sit on the big rock’ and wait until the situation cleared up. So when I came home from the games fair and was stressed about whether and how I was going to manage this huge project, where I was going to get all the different materials, whether I should contact other publishers, and so on and so forth... luckily, I didn't do anything at first. A few days later I met a close friend at a café and in the course of the conversation we came up with a dozen ideas that would drastically facilitate the development and publishing process and my inner feeling about the project relaxed.
All the love to you and yours 💜,
Daniel
